Security

Brackenridge Estate boasts a very solid security policy and measurements include strict, guarded access control, boundary fence monitoring and personal patrol. Homeowners contract individually with professional emergency armed response companies for enhanced security.

Access Control:
Brackenridge’s access control covers the monitoring of the entering and exiting of all individuals and vehicles at both the estate’s front and construction entrances. The movements of the daily construction and service providing workers are strictly controlled.

Boundary Monitoring:
Approximately 6 km of electrified fencing around the boundary is regularly patrolled by the estate guards to ensure that no potential tampering is left undetected.

Personal Patrol:
The estate is periodically patrolled by both day and night shifts.

Armed Response:
If an intruder attempts a break-in to a home which is contracted to an armed response company, their trained personnel dispatched to the house will immediately be given assess to the estate and, where possible, will be accompanied by one of our access control guards to assist in reaching the property as quickly as possible. (Access control guards are not trained in the art of or licensed to carry firearms.)

Resent Security Enhancements:

-  The original exit, which was an area of vulnerability, is now permanently locked.

-  The water feature has been moved backwards to facilitate the controlling of all exiting traffic
   through the third boom.

-  Several security control measures have been significantly increased, in order to ensure, among
other things, that none of the 400+ construction workers surreptitiously remain behind in the
   estate.

-  Three entrance security gates have been installed – thereby sealing off the last of the estate’s
access vulnerabilities. Two gates will be locked at 20:00 and reopened at 06:00. This will leave
the guards with only one point of entry and exit to control during night hours.

-  Steady progress is continually made with the construction of the boundary fence foundation. Flat
rap razor wire will form the final phase in securing the base of the fence.

-  The estate’s computerized boundary fence monitoring system (FANG) has been significantly
upgraded. This was partly achieved by the installation of radio repeaters to enhance
communication between the ten field boxes and the 40 security zones to the main computer in
   the guard house.

-  A new rapid response vehicle (1.4 City Golf) is on standby 24-7 to respond quickly to any of the
40 security zones going into alarm mode. The vehicle also augments the night patrolling of the
   estate.

-  The guard house is now linked to an armed response unit (ADT), which will respond to any
emergency that may threaten the entrance and / or boundary.

-  It’s currently under consideration to establish an in-house security company, in order to have total
control of the guards and lower staff turnover (a debilitating disease in the security industry).

Security is a high priority at Brackenridge Estate and the control measurements have been vastly improved over the last year – resulting in the estate being considered as one of the more secure residential areas in Plettenberg Bay.

Apart from the security services offered by the estate, the contracting of an armed response company rests solely with the individual homeowners.
